While you can walk with your dog anywhere along the Maah Daah Hey Trail, if you choose to go up to where the trail meets the Little Missouri National Grasslands (North Ranger District), your dogs are allowed to be off-leash. Another scenic hike your may wish to take with your dog is at Theodore Roosevelt National Park (North Unit). However, please note that pets are not allowed on trails or backcountry, but they are permitted on roads, picnic areas and campgrounds in the park, as long as they are leashed within 6 feet of their owner. Dogs are permitted at the Fort Union Trade Post National Historic Site, in all outdoor areas, including the courtyard.
