Neighbor Day: How to Turn Your Neighbors Into Friends

The world can be a harsh and unforgiving place. There is always going to be unkindness in our lives; it’s just an unfortunate side effect of being a human. But we don’t have to perpetuate that! There are plenty of ways to show kindness to those around you. The best place to start with that kindness is with your neighbors. A neighbor is one of the most valuable friends you could make. In honor of Neighbor Day, we’ve decided to give you a few ideas of how you can butter up your neighbors this week.

1. Offer to watch their pets.

We understand that pets are just as much a member of your family as anyone else. As we’re sure you’re aware, the Glen at Hunters Run Apartments allows residents to have pets. Sometimes though, you have to leave your pets behind. Not everywhere is as accommodating as the Glen! The next time one of your neighbors decides to jet set off somewhere, offer to watch their fur babies for them. Nothing will make them feel better than knowing their pets are comfortable in their own home being watched over by a caring neighbor instead of in some kennel, caged up for the duration of their vacation. Their minds can rest easy knowing that their pets are safe under your watchful eyes.

2. The quickest way to someone’s heart…

It might not true for everyone but as the saying goes, “The quickest way to someone’s heart is through their stomach.” We’re certain that delivering delicious baked goods will make you a friend for life to any of your neighbors. Whether you have a newbie moving in for the first time or there’s someone you’ve never talked to, dropping off a container of something delicious will warm them up to you in no time flat. At Jack and Jill’s grocery store, their bakery has everything you need to earn you a new friend. Their breads, donuts, pastries, and rolls are tasty enough to turn an enemy friendly! What will you choose to leave on your neighbor’s doorstep?

3. Take out multiple birds with one stone

While we don’t condone throwing rocks at the wildlife, we do encourage our residents at the Glen to interact and become friendly with one another. A great way to get a lot of your neighbors together at once is to host a mini ‘block-party’. It doesn’t have to be a huge to-do, you can host it in your own apartment, in the clubhouse, or at a restaurant like Outsider’s Bar and Grille. No matter where you host it, we’re sure your neighbors will be thrilled at the idea of connecting with you and others near them. You can never have too many friends!

Sometimes your neighbors can seem like a nuisance when you hear them stomping around or talking too loudly outside your door but they’re some of the best allies you could ever have. By befriending them, you celebrate what it really means to be neighbors. How will you celebrate Neighbor Day? Share with us on Facebook and Twitter.
